Vacancies and jobs
- URANIE – USC “Nutrition du Cheval
Athlète” is a research group associated to INRA and located
at AGROSUP in Dijon (Burgundy, France). This college of
agriculture is specialised in the field of agronomy and
agri-food. The research projects of URANIE – USC “Nutrition
du Cheval Athlète” focuses on the energy nutrition of the
athletic horses. We aim at improving the French energy
evaluation system (supply and requirement) in order to
ensure performances of athletic horses and to prevent
digestive disturbances. To better define the energy supply
of horse diet, studies are led to quantify and explain
digestibility of energy constituents in horses.
Up to now, most of the data on digestion, both in our research group and in others, are obtained on horses maintained in experimental conditions. Thus, only few factors can be measured in each experiment. The present project aims to develop a quantitative method of meta-analysis of experimental data to assess the impact of several factors on the digestibility in the total tract of horses. We will collaborate with the Digestion team (DIMA) of the “Herbivore Research Unit” (URH) at INRA Clermont-Ferrand/Theix (France).
Mission
The Post-doctorate will be in charge of investigating and quantifying the impact of feeding parameters on digestion of energy constituents in the total tract of the equine. To achieve this objective, the post-doctorate will have to build a database of published and unpublished data (from our research team) about digestibility of energy constituents in horses and to develop a quantitative analysis of these data. The post-doctorate is expected to publish the obtained results in collaboration with DIMA and URANIE.
Profile
We are looking for a post-doctoral candidate (PhD < 5 years) having solid scientific skills regarding digestive process in animals. Experience in statistical quantitative methods (meta-analysis) for studying biologic databases will be appreciated. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is essential. The candidate must not be of French nationality. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required. Knowledge of French will be appreciated.
Type of contract
Contract of 12 months with a net salary of 2 000 euros per month.
Closing date for application : October 15, 2011.
Starting date : December 2011
Candidates interested in our proposal should send, drop off, email, or fax a cover letter and a CV outlining interest in the position and abilities with reference to the skills outlined above to Christelle Philippeau, AgroSup Dijon, URANIE, 21079 Dijon Cedex, France .Phone:+33.(0)3.80.77.29.24 ; Fax : +33.(0)3.80.77.25.84 ;Email : c.philippeau@agrosupdijon.fr
- A postdoc position is available in
Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) and
Facultat de Veterinaria UAB (Campus Universitat Autonoma
Barcelona) for analyzing the impact of artificial selection
and of domestication on genomewide nucleotide diversity. We
are looking for a motivated and dynamic postdoc to work in
statistical and population genetics issues arising from Next
Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. Broadly, there are two
topics, or a combination, on which the postdoc could focus:
-Use of realistic simulations to model complex demographic and selectivescenarios to mimic, eg, the usefulness of genomic selection, SNP ascertainment bias or the power of different tests to identify selection.
-Development of software and pipelines to seamless carry out diverse variability tests from raw NGS data.
We will pay special attention to livestock or domestic plants, where artifical selection has been strong. In addition, we are carrying diverse studies to to unravel the adaptation of pigs to extreme climates using new sequencing technologies or to identify genes related to meat quality also in pigs, so ample opportunities also exist to get involved in analyzing real data.
The postdoc will join a multidisciplinary group with expertises in quantitative, population and molecular genetics. The work will be developed in a new center in Agrigenomics (www.cragenomica.es <http://www.cragenomica.es>) within the campus of Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona (www.uab.es <http://www.uab.es>).
Initially, the position is for one year with possible extensions, salary will be commensurate with CV. Experience in NGS data analyses is not required but we do ask for good programming skills. We also require the candidate is competitive at the national level to be eligible for a Juan de la Cierva or similar postdoc. This means that the PhD should NOT have been obtained earlier than 2008 and should have a good publishing record.
Interested persons please email CV, letter of motivation and of interests, and name and email of at least two scientists who can provide references.
