‘ANIMAL
– An International Journal of Animal Bioscience’ |
Stop press – the
first issue is now published. The first issue is available
electronically with no charge for access. Go to:

The journal is the
central element in a new and exciting collaborative venture between
the European Federation for Animal Science (EAAP), Institut National
de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), and British Society of Animal
Science (BSAS). It merges three high quality and successful journals
(Animal Science, Animal Research and Reproduction, Nutrition,
Development) into a single forward looking publication that will
reduce fragmentation in the sector, improve synergies and, we hope,
act as a catalyst for integrating process-level and systems science
in the animal biosciences.
The journal has
been established to better meet the future challenges in the
dissemination of knowledge and to address the developing areas
within the animal biosciences. Whilst it represents a merging of
three scientific journals, the vision is to develop a completely new
entity which seeks to attract the best research in animal biology
and animal systems from across the spectrum of the agricultural,
biomedical and environmental sciences. The concept is not exclusive
and the three partners invite other journals to join this initiative
and to further rationalise the publishing of knowledge from the
animal biosciences.
The aim is to make
ANIMAL a major international
force in the animal science sector and to raise the profile and
standing of integrative biology alongside more specialist
disciplines. It will recognise that there is a need not only to
integrate between the molecular, cellular, organ and whole animal
components of the system but also that livestock farming systems
link the animal with its environment and with people.
The success of the
new journal will depend to a major extent on the commitment of
animal scientists in submitting high quality papers to the new
journal. The first issue will be available in February 2007.
It is published by
Cambridge University Press (a not-for-profit organisation) and it is
your journal, produced entirely for the benefit of
scientists. ANIMAL is led by
Michel Doreau (Editor-in-Chief), John Oldham (Strategic Development)
and Kris Sejrsen (Reviews and Symposia) It will publish will publish
original cutting-edge research, ‘hot’ topics and horizon-scanning
reviews on animal-related aspects of the life sciences. The articles
will be arranged nominally in sections:
