The
Faculty of Agriculture at Ankara University is a higher
education institution that has the scientific experience
gained from the last 100 years of research and education in
Turkey.
The
Faculty was founded in Ankara in 1933. Prior to its
establishment, the organization of the Faculty benefited from
the long experience in agricultural education provided by the
Halkalý High School of Agriculture in Ýstanbul opened within
the last decade of the 19th century.
There is a total of 481-hectare research, training and
application farms for students and academic staff. These farms
provide excellent opportunities for both research activities
and practical training. It also serves as a facility providing
demonstrations of modern techniques and technologies to nearby
rural communities. As it is located 40 to 60 kilometres away
from Ankara, a student hostels with a capacity for 150
students, and additional accommodation facilities for academic
staff are available at the farms. The Animal Science
Department consists of Animal Breeding, Feed and Animal
Nutrition, and the Biometry and Genetics branches, all of
which are involved in research and teaching activities.
